3 Ways to Trigger Zapier Automation from Airtable
Jun 14, 2021Zapier has created three trigger options with Airtable. Every automation starts with a trigger, so you must first determine the right trigger for your situation. Your options are:
- New Record
- New Record in View
- New or Updated Record
But which trigger is best for your situation? Every trigger is best suited for specific scenarios, so in this tutorial I break down each of the options and I add my tips for when to use each of them.
A few tips:
For New Record, ensure that all the information you need for your automation will be captured at the instant the record is created. This means that either (1) you don't need any additional information from the record, or (2) you capture that information upfront.
For New Record in View, be aware that the automation will only trigger the first time the record enters the view. If it leaves the view and then comes back, the automation will not retrigger! Also, lock down your views to prevent your filters from accidentally getting changed (trust me, you don't want your automations to misfire!)
For New or Updated Record, your automation will trigger every time the timestamp in your record is updated. If you want to combine this with specific conditions in your record, use a view to add those conditions to work as an additional layer within the trigger.
