How to use Synced Tables in Airtable
Dec 19, 2022A simple way to eliminate redundant data entry in Airtable is to understand (and use!) synced tables. Synced tables are available on paid Airtable plans, and they work to pull information from one base into another. In this training I walk through all the details about setting up a synced table for your Airtable workspace.
Identifying the Source
Synced tables in Airtable are not yet on a two-way sync, so we have to first identify the source of the data. Presumably the data lives somewhere in your workspace already, so the first step is to jump in and find it. From here, you can create a new view to sync up with secondary bases. Note that the view you set up can filter in specific data so that you're not sharing the entirety of your data, unless you intend to!
Syncing the table
Once the view is created, it's time to sync the table. The next step is to share the view, being sure to toggle your intent to sync. From there, it's simple to follow the steps to get this all synced up! You'll be prompted with some questions about how you want the data to remain synced, so check through these options and pick the settings that suit your needs.
Editing the Source
Since synced tables aren't yet using a two-way sync, you can only edit the data in the source. I walk through a simple way to do this by creating a button in your secondary table that will instantly take you back to the source data, should you need to make any edits.
Pricing and availability
Consider the plan you're on and note how many syncs you're allowed to implement with that plan. At present, Airtable requires that you are on a paid plan to have any synced tables and the quantity of the syncs you're permitted grows with the higher paid tiers.
There's a lot to explore with synced tables, but hopefully this gets you started on a great path. If so, please consider using our affiliate link for Airtable here 👈
